ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — For five months, the City of St. Petersburg knew radar scans detected more potential graves at a Tropicana Field parking lot, but there was no mention to council members or to the public.
After obtaining and reviewing a copy of the archaeological report, 10 Investigates broke news last week that crews found seven more graves from the old Oaklawn Cemetery using ground-penetrating radar. This is in addition to three graves found during a different search in 2021.
The report, authored by Stantec, was delivered to St. Petersburg in November 2024. 10 Investigates asked for comment from Mayor Ken Welch at an unrelated affordable housing event after three requests to the city went unanswered…
