Tampa’s Racial Reconciliation Committee seeks more support from city officials

TAMPA, Fla. — Since its formation last year, Tampa’s Racial Reconciliation Committee has been hosting a series of meetings and workshops to address what some are calling systemic inequality and social injustices in the city of Tampa.

At Thursday’s City Council meeting, all 13 committee members called out the City of Tampa for not offering adequate support in achieving their goal. The Racial Reconciliation Committee has just two meetings left before their recommendations are due to both Mayor Jane Castor and the city council. Since they began this process, members say collaboration with the city has been lacking.

“Time is a non-renewable resource,” said Committee Vice Chair Pastor Christopher Harris. “Once it is spent, you cannot get it back.”…
