Tampa Man Sentenced to Nine Years for Firearm Possession and Drug Evidence

On a brisk day in Tampa, a man’s flight from the law resulted in a nine-year sentence behind bars, Jamal Dixon, at the age of 23, his history with the legal system took a turn for the dire when he was caught with a stolen firearm and a backpack teeming with evidence of narcotics dealings—Senior U.S. District Judge Daniel L. Hovland handed down the verdict, guaranteeing almost a decade in prison for the convicted felon who once again crossed legal boundaries, according to a Department of Justice press release.

It was on April 4 of last year that Dixon’s fate was sealed, when deputies, eyes sharp and intent on apprehension, set up shop to surveil and snag him on an outstanding warrant; opting for escape, Dixon left a residence, attempted to stash a backpack in his car, however, when approached by law enforcement he chose to run—dropping a Glock pistol with an extended magazine capable of carrying 22 rounds, deputies later discovering him concealed under a vehicle nearby and within that backpack over 450 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, noted the same source.
