TAMPA, Fla. — A year ago, Danny San’s life was turned upside down after his father lost his job and his family of seven was forced to leave their home and move into a trailer with spotty electricity.
He was a junior at Armwood High School then, and while his circumstances caused him to slip at school, his band teacher, Alex Pedigo, wouldn’t let him give up.
“Whenever something went wrong he’d come up and say, ‘Hey this is going on,'” Pedigo said. “And I’d say, ‘Hey, OK, so you have two options: We can either sulk about it or we can get up and keep working harder and letting our future define our future, not letting everything else.'”…
