TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tampa Police Department officers will soon carry Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in their patrol cars, allowing them to better respond to medical emergencies while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
Patrol officers are often the first to respond in all situations, including medical emergencies. Officials said having AEDs in their cars will help officers save lives.
“This critical equipment will undoubtedly make our community safer,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said. “Having AEDs readily available in every patrol vehicle will allow our officers to provide immediate assistance for cardiac emergencies, potentially saving more lives.
