Free school meals no longer guaranteed in Pasco County

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Big changes are coming to Pasco County schools, and some families will have to apply to see if their students qualify for free or reduced-priced school meals ahead of the upcoming school year.

Pasco County Schools sent families a memo Monday morning informing them of changes to the program, which used to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students, regardless of income.

“For the past several years, all Pasco County Schools have been part of a federal program called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). This program has allowed us to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students, regardless of income,” the district said in a memo. “However, due to rising food costs and changes in federal legislation, our district will be making some changes starting with the 2025–2026 school year.”…
