Trial postponed for Tampa student accused of killing her newborn, putting her in trash

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The mother of a baby found dead in a trash can on the University of Tampa campus will be going to trial in March.

Brianna Moore was originally set to stand trial in late July. However, a judge granted her attorney’s request for more time to try the case during a hearing last week, according to the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office.

Moore is facing several charges related to her newborn baby’s death in April 2024. Moore was 19 years old at the time.

According to investigators, Moore’s roommates reported finding a newborn baby girl no longer breathing and wrapped in a towel in the 19-year-old student’s trash can.

Authorities said Moore denied being pregnant at first but later told them she had given birth in her dorm room and held her baby tight to stop the crying…
