New state law means teen drivers required to take more training

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — The privilege of driving comes with serious responsibilities, and a new Florida law underscores the point for teenagers between the ages of 14-and-a-half and 17-years old.

Starting August 1, those teens are required to take a new six-hour classroom-based course to get a learner’s permit in Florida.

“Anyone getting a permit who is under the age of 17 is going to now be required to take a six-hour educational driving course, and this is going to have to be in person, meaning that you’re going to have to go physically to a classroom or do it online — a live person at the other end teaching you this course,” said Pasco County Tax Collector Mike Fasano…
