4 Arrests In Florida Theft Ring Targeting Semi Trucks For Vital Electronic Control Modules

Authorities in Florida say they have busted an organized theft ring responsible for stealing electronic control modules (ECMs) from semi trucks across two states.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday it has “dismantled” a criminal enterprise responsible for $750,000 in thefts and damages across six jurisdictions in two states after “months” of surveillance and investigation.

The sheriff’s office shared surveillance videos Monday showing suspects targeting parked semi-trucks, opening the engine compartments and cutting wiring to remove the ECMs. The removal of ECMs leaves the trucks “completely inoperable,” the sheriff’s office said…
