Tampa shelter blames large influx of abandoned dogs on ICE deportations

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A local shelter is at max capacity after taking in over 100 pets over the last few months, with their owners nowhere to be found.

Mercy Full Shelter in Tampa claimed nearly all of the animals were found as strays or left in homes and backyards at locations in rural parts of Plant City and Dover.

“What do we do with the animals?” said Heydi Acuna, the director of the facility. “We don’t have space. We don’t have the families contacting us. Please help us.”
