TAMPA, Fla. – Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to a diesel fuel fire that engulfed two vehicles behind a commercial complex off US Highway 301 on Wednesday afternoon. The incident, which began around 1:40 PM, saw firefighters battling a blaze where burning fuel was flowing into a storm drain.
According to HCFR dispatch records, the initial calls reported a diesel leak that had ignited. Upon arrival at 503 S. US Highway 301, crews found two vehicles fully engulfed in flames. A significant concern was the burning fuel, which was actively running into and down a storm drain behind the building.
Firefighters acted swiftly to suppress the flames and mitigate the environmental risk. In addition to extinguishing the vehicle fires, crews established a safety perimeter to protect bystanders from smoke and fumes.
