Toxic chemicals in Temple Terrace water spark fertility fears, health concerns

TEMPLE TERRACE — Hundreds of anxious residents packed the Omar K. Lightfoot Senior Recreation Center on Aug. 11 with two urgent questions for city officials: Is our tap water safe to drink, and if not, when will it be?

Neither question received a clear answer during the four-hour town hall meeting as officials and their consultants outlined plans to address toxic PFAS chemicals — known as “forever chemicals,” — recently detected in the city’s water supply.

“I haven’t heard any recommendation (about) if we should drink the water, period,” said resident Gil Samreny. “What we would like to hear … for you to come right out and say … should you drink the water, period.”…
