Alabama Man Sentenced In Mississippi To Over 27 Years As “Serial Molester”

A Moundville, Alabama man was sentenced to more than 27 years in federal prison in Mississippi today for enticement of a minor. The case, which began with a tip from a concerned parent, uncovered a wider pattern of predatory behavior.

Angel Chavez-Heras, 35, was sentenced to 328 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. According to court documents, he solicited sexually explicit images and videos from a 14-year-old minor in Mississippi using various online applications. The documents also state that Chavez-Heras traveled more than two hours on at least two occasions to sexually assault the victim.

A search of his electronic devices revealed he had engaged in similar behavior with other minor victims. U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner said that charges in other jurisdictions will be pursued separately.

Chief Judge Debra Brown imposed the sentence, emphasizing the severity of the crime. In addition to the prison term, Chavez-Heras will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release and must pay restitution to the victim…
