Tampa ranked second in the nation for economic growth, St. Pete and Clearwater also shine

Tampa is making waves on the national stage. A new study from CoworkingCafe ranked the city No. 2 among mid-sized U.S. cities for economic growth between 2019 and 2023, cementing Tampa’s status as one of the country’s strongest success stories.

The report highlights how Tampa’s economy surged over the past four years. The value of all goods and services produced in the city climbed by an impressive 43%—the fastest growth rate among cities in its category. Paychecks are rising, too, with the average income up 38%, second only to New York City. Tampa’s global reach is expanding as well, with international exports increasing by 93%.

The city’s business landscape is thriving, according to Coworking Cafe:

  • 71% growth in new business applications
  • 2% decrease in unemployment
  • 2% increase in overall employment
