WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – A Wesley Chapel man was arrested Sunday evening after leading a Florida Highway Patrol trooper on a high-speed pursuit, later telling authorities he was searching for hidden money promoted through an online scavenger hunt.
According to an arrest report, the incident began around 7:41 p.m. on August 24, 2025, when Trooper D. Ramos observed a black Toyota Corolla speeding eastbound on State Road 56 near Shops Lane. Radar confirmed the vehicle was traveling 85 mph in a 55 mph zone.
As the trooper attempted to turn and initiate a traffic stop, the driver accelerated, ran a red light at Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, and fishtailed while making a turn at high speed.
