Study: Tampa ranked No. 5 best city to retire

TAMPA, Fla. — A new study found that Tampa is among the best places to retire, according to factors like affordability, activities, quality of life and healthcare.

A WalletHub study ranked Tampa No. 5, falling just below Miami on the list of best retirement cities. Researchers compared 182 cities, including the 150 most populated cities plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state.

The cities were compared across 45 metrics that fell into the four categories. Affordability took into account the adjusted cost of living and taxpayer friendliness. The number of recreation and senior centers per capita and the number of a variety of different clubs and venues fell under the activities category. Quality of life focused on measurements like how much of the population is over 65 and the violent crime rate.
