Commercial dumping caused 17 million gallons of wastewater to leak at Falkenburg plant, county says

BRANDON, Fla. — Hillsborough County is working to clean up a problem that has caused 17 million gallons of partially-treated wastewater to leak at its Falkenburg Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility.

The problem started Sunday night, and a clog in the filtration process sent water to overflow the tanks and into a nearby stormwater ditch. While most of the problem was contained early Monday morning, there have been leaks since.
