TAMPA, Fla. — Friday is National POW/MIA Recognition Day, with flags flying at half-staff to honor those who fought for the nation but never returned home, those who remain missing, and those who endured life as prisoners of war.
Ceremonies are being held across the Bay Area, including one in Temple Terrace, where veterans, families and friends gathered to remember.
“It’s really emotional, because I know a lot of guys that didn’t make it,” said Marine Corps veteran Earl Eckles. “I had uncles all over Vietnam in ’68 and ’69, and there’s just a lot of emotion there because we know there are still guys that we need to bring back.”…
