New community center in Tampa to offer services to those experiencing homelessness

TAMPA, Fla. — The Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Petersburg marked the next chapter of Tampa Hope with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Matthew 25 Community Center.

The 7,000-square-foot facility, located near Ybor City, will be blessed by Bishop Gregory Parkes and celebrated by Tampa Mayor Jane Castor alongside city leaders and supporters on Monday morning. The project, built entirely with $1.5 million in private donations, expands services at Tampa Hope, which Catholic Charities and the City of Tampa launched in December 2021.

Inside the center, clients will have access to showers, laundry, restrooms and a commercial-grade kitchen. Tampa Hope currently serves up to 201 people each day, with plans underway to raise capacity beyond 310…
