UPDATE 1:45 P.M. ST. PETE, Fla. (WWSB) – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office released more details about the response and closure of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge on Wednesday morning, Sept. 24.
Deputies responded to the bridge at 9:48 a.m. after locating a suspicious vehicle, according to a statement given to WWSB.
The sheriff’s bomb team was called to the scene to examine a box found inside the vehicle. After the examination, officials determined the contents were not a threat.
Both northbound and southbound lanes of I-275 over the bridge were closed for several hours during the investigation. Southbound traffic was diverted at 54th Avenue South, while northbound drivers were detoured at the I-75/I-275 interchange…
