Tampa man killed after dump truck erupts in flames during crash: FHP

CENTER HILL, Fla. (WFLA) — A 62-year-old Tampa man died Thursday after authorities said he was unable to escape from his vehicle following a fiery crash in Sumter County.

The crash happened shortly after 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of CR-48 and SR-471, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 62-year-old had been traveling westbound on CR-48 in a sand-filled dump truck.

As he reached the intersection, the dump truck driver made a wide right turn onto SR-471 and crossed into the path of a Rooms-To-Go furniture truck, officials said.

The driver of the Rooms-To-Go truck, a 41-year-old Lakeland man, crashed into the dump truck, and troopers said both vehicles erupted into flames…
