The jury previously convicted Angel Gabriel Cuz Choc on Tuesday for the murders of Amalia Coc Choc De Pec and her 4-year-old daughter, Estrella Pec Coc. Thursday, they voted 10-2 to recommend the death penalty.
Cuz Choc stabbed the mother and daughter in what was described as “an extremely gruesome scene” in April 2024 after Amalia got home later than he expected.
During his trial, Cuz Choc claimed he did not remember murdering Amalia and Estrella.
“Jurors saw surveillance video of a joyful 4-year-old girl dancing around with a lollipop,” State Attorney Suzy Lopez said. “She was enjoying a simple, happy moment with her mother at the grocery store. Just 30 minutes later, the defendant would brutally murder them both. This defendant will be punished to the fullest extent of the law for these senseless acts of violence. Our hearts are with their loved ones in Guatemala and the United States as they navigate life without Amalia and Estrella.”…
