Teen Boy Bravely Rescues Autistic 5-Year-Old Sister From Florida Lake, But Gets Stuck, And Deputies Rescue Both

When a teenage boy bravely tried to rescue his autistic, nonverbal 5-year-old sister from a Florida lake this week, both became trapped in a tangle of vegetation and had to be rescued by deputies.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said the young girl was reported missing in the area of Lake Lisa Park in Port Richey at around 3:30 p.m. Oct. 6. When deputies arrived at the scene, they learned the girl was seen in the lake, and her 17-year-old brother had already jumped in to try to rescue her.

Body-worn camera video shared by the sheriff’s office shows a deputy sprinting to the lake, fighting through thick vegetation to reach the shoreline. He arrived to find the teenager had placed the girl on a branch above the water, but they were unable to get all the way out…
