U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a hold on a Tampa man who ran on foot when asked for his driver’s license.
A trooper was in the middle of a traffic stop at the TA Travel Center on State Road 44 in Wildwood, when he noticed his patrol car slightly blocking a gold Ford F-150 around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The driver, later identified as 28-year-old Luis Alexis Morales Martinez, was close enough that when he started to reverse out of his parking spot, the trooper saw he was not wearing a seatbelt.
The trooper finished the traffic stop and then tried to speak with Morales Martinez about the unfastened seatbelt. At that point, the truck had turned around from the exit onto State Road 44 and started heading toward the gas pumps. It then stopped in front of the trooper who got out of his vehicle to ask Morales Martinez for his driver’s license, the report said.
He immediately got out of the truck and fled on foot eastbound across the parking lot. The two other passengers also fled west across the parking lot. The trooper gave chase on foot after Morales Martinez, commanding him to stop, the report said…
