Florida Man Arrested After Speeding 117 MPH on I-4, Claims He Was Rushing Because His Friend “Had to Use the Bathroom”

LAKELAND, FLORIDA — Deputies in Polk County arrested a 25-year-old man after he was caught speeding 117 miles per hour on Interstate 4, far exceeding the 70-mph limit. When questioned, the driver told deputies he was in a hurry because his friend urgently needed to use the bathroom — an excuse that didn’t convince law enforcement.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the driver, identified as Fred William Betancourt, was clocked flying down I-4 near Lakeland, weaving through traffic and endangering other motorists in what Sheriff Grady Judd described as “blatant reckless driving.

Reckless Speeding and Prior Suspensions

Investigators say Betancourt’s reckless behavior wasn’t an isolated incident. Deputies discovered that his driver’s license had been suspended seven times, making this the latest in a string of driving offenses.
