A Cessna Citation VI (N500FR) almost landed at the MacDill Air Force Base while attempting to land at the Tampa International Airport (TPA).
The aircraft was finishing a flight from the Wiley Post Airport (PWA) and called the ATC tower to report they were on the final approach at an altitude of 1,600 feet at roughly 12-13 nautical miles away from the airport, according to Gate Check.com. It is unknown what type of approach the Citation was cleared for, as it was flying below the charted altitude of 2,600 ft at that distance.
The pilots were told they were third in line on the approach behind a Gulfstream V and a Breeze Airways Airbus A220-300, because there was another aircraft departing from the runway.
