A speeding drunk driving suspect who was arrested on Interstate 75 in Sumter County said he was having a “bad day.”
Mark Anthony Jernigan Jr., 27, of Dade City, was driving a red two-door sedan at 12:10 a.m. Sunday northbound near Mile Marker 325 on I-75 when he was paced traveling 81 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone, according to an arrest report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The trooper pacing the vehicle initiated a traffic stop and while Jernigan pulled over, he continued driving toward a wooded area. When he opened the car door and attempted to get out, he was ordered to stay in the vehicle. The trooper spotted a bottle of Tito’s Vodka in the center console.
Jernigan admitted he had been drinking and said he was having “a bad day.” He added that he has been having a bad day “for a long time.” He began to cry and complained about “losing his kids.” Jernigan’s girlfriend called several times during the traffic stop and repeatedly expressed that she was “worried” about Jernigan…
