Tampa rabbi shares Chanukah’s message of hope after tragedy

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Tampa Bay Jewish Community continues to celebrate Chanukah through various local events despite the recent tragedy in Australia.

“When you see the Menorah, it reminds you that there’s hope in humanity,” Rabbi Mendy Dubrowski said.

Dubrowski is the director for the Chabad Chai South Tampa. He said spreading light during dark times is one of the cultural meanings behind Chanukah, and right now is no different.

“People have always wondered, what is the secret to Jewish survival?” Dubrowski asked. “I think the secret is reflected in our celebrating the holiday this year. We’re grieving. We’re saddened by the events that have happened to our brothers and sisters in Australia. It is our mission to show the rest of the world the power of the human soul and spirit. Knowing you carry that mission gives you strength to keep pushing forward even as you have to fight the darkness.”…
