Tampa Bay sees spike in deadly crashes over holidays

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — As New Year’s Eve approaches, a deadly week on Tampa Bay roads is raising concerns and prompting warnings from law enforcement and safety advocates.

Investigators said several recent crashes, including a suspected DUI and cases involving aggressive driving, have killed both children and adults across the region during the holiday week.

The most recent fatal crash happened the day after Christmas at an intersection in Apollo Beach. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said a 16-year-old girl was killed when a pickup truck slammed into the car she was riding in with her mother. Investigators said 21-year-old Dominic Frye was arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter.
