Retired Lakeland officer arrested for making threats over parking ticket at Publix: PCSO

LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — A retired law enforcement officer who spent decades working in Polk County has found himself behind bars after deputies said he became enraged over a parking ticket.

Marcus Baker, 60, is accused of threatening a 75-year-old Volunteer Sheriff’s Service Officer (VSSO) at a Publix located off County Road 540A in Lakeland.

“We expect our law enforcement officers and retired law enforcement officers to set a proper example through their lawful and appropriate behavior,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. “He set the wrong example. We set the right example by holding him accountable.”

The VSSO was conducting parking enforcement at the grocery store on Tuesday, Dec. 30 when he said he saw Baker’s vehicle parked in a marked fire lane. A “No parking” sign was also posted in the area…
