Deputies notice smell of alcohol on driver stopped with suspended license

A Lakeland woman with a suspended license was arrested for DUI after deputies noticed she smelled like alcohol during a traffic stop.

A deputy pulled over 42-year-old Gina Marie Jensen in a silver Toyota passenger car in Lake Panasoffee at 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He had checked her registration and learned she had multiple active suspensions, leading to the traffic stop on County Road 470 near County Road 412.

Another deputy came to assist when the first noticed the slight smell of alcohol coming from Jensen. The other deputy noticed it, too, along with Jensen’s hesitation to make eye contact. Her eyes were glassy and droopy, and her speech was slow and slurred, the report said.

Suspecting she was impaired, the deputies asked Jensen to participate in field sobriety exercises. She agreed but only did two of them, which were enough to conclude she was indeed under the influence. She later provided breath samples of 0.195g/210L, 0.169g/210L and 0.189g/210L, the report said…
