Arrr, the city of Tampa is set to be “invaded” by pirates this month, mateys!
The Gasparilla Pirate Festival is a very popular annual celebration with a variety of related pirate-themed community events, held in Tampa every January.
The festival is named after a famed 18th-century Florida pirate, José Gaspar (who may or may not have been a real person), and is said to bring “the spirit of pirates past and glittering treasures for visitors and locals to plunder.” The name “Gasparilla” comes from his ship, the ”Jose Gasparilla.”…
