LAKELAND, Fla. – A traffic stop spiraled into a high-speed chase and a chaotic multi-vehicle crash in Lakeland on Friday afternoon, ending with a Tampa man facing serious trafficking charges after troopers uncovered a significant stash of narcotics in his wrecked car.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident began when a trooper clocked Jerell Carr, 35, traveling 61 mph in a 45 mph zone. The driver initially pulled over, but the calm didn’t last. As the trooper stepped out of his patrol car to approach the vehicle, the driver slammed on the gas.
Troopers say Carr fled the scene, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph as he wove through traffic. The pursuit came to a violent end at the intersection of CR-540A and Carter Road, where the suspect’s vehicle collided with six other cars.
