TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)— A bald eagle that was rescued from vines in the Weeki Wachee River was released after rehabilitation for 49 days, the Raptor Center of Tampa Bay announced.
“Weeki Wachee,” also known as Martha, was found entangled in vines in the Weeki Wachee River on December 27.
The bald eagle was taken to the Raptor Center of Tampa Bay, where testing revealed negligible lead blood levels, but confirmed the presence of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza.
Weeki Wachee was isolated, and after testing negative for the virus after four weeks, she was taken to the flight cage for a two-week observation period…
