American family lands in Tampa after being rescued from cartel violence in Mexico

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A husband and wife were evacuated from Guadalajara and landed safely in Tampa Friday night with help from local nonprofit Grey Bull Rescue.

The Acosta family was visiting other members of their extended family when violence broke out last weekend, stemming from the killing of drug cartel leader “El Mencho.”

“We were a little afraid there, afraid because of how things were happening. Everything was burned around us. Burned vehicles, burned stores, burned pharmacies, and we couldn’t go out because we were afraid they might be out there on the road,” said Arnulfo Acosta, who was rescued.

Following the takedown of one of the world’s largest drug kingpins, who was the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, numerous businesses and cars were burned throughout the country, and nearly 25 dozen members of the Mexican National Guard were killed…
