Hillsborough County student arrested for bringing firearm to school

DOVER, Florida — A 15-year-old student was arrested for bringing a firearm to Strawberry Crest High School, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

On March 9, 2026, at 1:01 p.m., Eddy Martinez Pedro, 15, was involved in a fight with another student and fled on foot after a school administrator confiscated his backpack. During his escape, a firearm fell from his pants, which he retrieved before leaving the school grounds. Deputies later located Martinez Pedro with school security near the 13300 block of East US-92 in Dover and recovered the firearm underneath a nearby deck.

Martinez Pedro faces charges including possession of a firearm on school property, minor in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, and disrupting a school campus or function. “School security and our deputies responded quickly to stop a situation that could have put others’ lives at risk,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Weapons have no place on a school campus, and we will always take immediate action when the safety of students and staff is threatened. We encourage people to continue speaking up and reporting suspicious activity.”…
