💧 Tampa to build world’s largest ion exchange water system

The Tampa City Council has approved funding to design a new Suspended Ion Exchange (SIX®) system at the David L. Tippin Water Treatment Facility, which will become the largest of its kind in the world and the first full-scale SIX® system in the U.S. Once complete, the upgraded plant will be able to treat up to 140 million gallons of drinking water per day, improving water quality for more than 733,000 residents.

The SIX® technology, developed by PWNT, reduces chemical use by up to 79% and could save the city $1.7–$1.9 million annually. It also helps address seasonal water quality issues from the Hillsborough River and supports removal of emerging contaminants like PFAS.
