Hillsborough County deputies rescue driver from submerged vehicle

TAMPA, Florida — A driver was rescued by Hillsborough County deputies after her car plunged into a retention pond late Sunday night.

On April 5, 2026, just after 9 p.m., the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a woman who had lost control of her vehicle at the intersection of 70th and Hartford Street, according to a press release from the department. The vehicle entered a retention pond, trapping the driver inside as it began to fill with water.

Deputies arrived within minutes and immediately entered the water, breaking through a window to pull the driver from the submerged vehicle and bringing her safely to shore. The driver sustained minor injuries…
