The 81-year-old motorcyclist from Lutz suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
In a Florida Highway Patrol news release cited by Tampa Bay 28, investigators said the motorcyclist was riding a Kawasaki south on U.S. 41 when the bicyclist tried to cross the highway heading west and moved into the motorcycle’s path. Troopers said the crash is still under active investigation by the FHP.
Where It Happened
The wreck occurred on a stretch of U.S. 41 that runs through a mix of residential and rural areas north of Swans Landing Drive. Statistical data from the FLHSMV shows Pasco County recorded 235 bicyclist crashes in 2023, up from 191 in 2022, underscoring ongoing risks for people who travel by bike in the county. Local planners have pointed to corridor work and intersection upgrades as part of long-term strategies to bring those numbers down.
