Friday, a man was taken into custody who was wanted in a May 5 homicide in Phoenix.
Authorities arrested Raymond French, 25, on Friday, Jan. 3 in Chandler, according to a news release. He had been indicted by a grand jury for second-degree murder in the May 5 death of Paul Lopez Jr., 38.
The release states the incident in which Lopez Jr. was killed happened at about 11:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of North 51st Avenue.
“Less than 24 hours after detectives began the investigation, they learned the victim, Lopez Jr., died from the injuries he suffered in the night of May 5,” the release states. “Detectives continued the investigation by searching for evidence which included various discarded items, video surveillance, and witness testimony. This resulted in the identification of the suspect, French.”
The release states French was involved in an unrelated investigation that occurred on the Gila River Indian Community. French was later booked on his outstanding homicide warrant.
The release didn’t mentionif a particular agency or location regarding the apprehension. But Phoenix Police thanked “local and federal partners,” including the Gila River, Mesa and Chandler police departments and the FBI for their help.
