PHOENIX — Work is being done to try and help keep Isaac Elementary District open and running after a more than $12 million budget shortfall was discovered. But first, they have to figure out how to meet payroll.
“I don’t have the money,” Maricopa County Treasurer John Allen said. “It’s not a county responsibility to keep schools open, it’s a state responsibility. I wish I had better news from my office to the constituents of that district. “This is not a policy choice on my part, it’s my legal obligation to do certain things, and I’ll be part of the solution if it’s offered to me and I’ll work hard to do that. But at this moment I can’t help them.”
Allen says that any staff or teachers who still have uncashed paychecks, need to deposit or cash them as soon as possible…
