Phoenix will pay $3M after garbage truck fatally hits 21-year-old woman

PHOENIX — The Phoenix City Council agreed to pay $3 million to settle litigation filed the family of a woman who was fatally hit by a city sanitation truck last year.

Orianna N. Diosdado, 21, died after she was struck by a garbage truck on Feb. 15, 2024, near 19th Avenue and Union Hills Drive. Phoenix police said at the time that Diosdado was walking in a marked crosswalk at an intersection when she was hit by a truck making a right-hand turn.

A few months after the fatal incident, the woman’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city in Maricopa County Superior Court…
