Microchip Technology Inc. has hired Macquarie Group to facilitate marketing and sale of its Tempe wafer fabrication facility, the Chandler-based semiconductor company announced Thursday.
Microchip engaged Macquarie, an Australian financial services firm, to sell its Tempe factory — known as Fab 2 — as part of the company’s previously announced plan to cut costs and resize its total manufacturing footprint.
“The closure and sale of Fab 2 is the latest development in our ongoing restructuring, demonstrating our efforts to resize our manufacturing footprint,” Michael Finley, senior vice president of Microchip’s fab operations, said in a statement. “We believe Macquarie’s extensive experience in the marketing and disposition of assets from advanced equipment to complete facilities positions them well to oversee the sale of Fab 2.”…
