Chandler bans camping in public places, storing items at bus stops

CHANDLER, Ariz. — The Chandler City Council voted Thursday to implement new policies that ban camping on public property or loitering around bus stops for more than an hour.

Individuals who attempt to set up a tent or shelter on a public facility or within 500 feet of a school could be subject to a criminal citation for a Class 1 misdemeanor. Citations will occur only after if the individual has received a warning within the previous year.

“Urban camping restrictions will provide an additional tool for both service providers and law enforcement to use to engage people in services and keep communities thriving,” city records state…
