MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — A convicted Valley con man was arrested after police said he harassed his neighbor and then murdered her inside her garage earlier this year.
Derek Bollwinkel was taken into custody on June 2 at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport in connection with the death of 82-year-old Linda Baran. He had been extradited from Salt Lake City.
According to court documents, her body was found on Feb. 11 around 4:45 p.m. in the back seat of her car at her home in the area of Ellsworth and Baseline roads. Court documents said Baran had been shot while surrendering and holding her hands up. Furniture inside the front door showed that there was a struggle. Police said Bollwinkel and Baran had been neighbors, but he was evicted about three weeks before the murder…
