Arizona Mother Dog “Rainbow Brite” and Litter of 9 Puppies Rescued from Extreme Heat Seek Forever Homes

Amid the blistering Arizona heat, a mother dog and her litter of puppies have received a surge of attention after being rescued from potentially deadly conditions. The canine family, found without water or shelter, is now looking for a forever home. The Arizona Humane Society, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix, shared the ordeal of “Rainbow Brite,” aptly named for her distinctive coat adorned with spots dyed to mimic a leopard’s.

On May 29, the staff of the Arizona Humane Society, responding to a report of a dog tethered to a fence in triple-digit temperatures, discovered Rainbow Brite and her nine puppies enduring the sweltering heat on pavement that measured a scorching 133 degrees. According to an article from The Sacramento Bee, Rainbow exhibited worrying signs of heat stress, with a body temperature of 106 degrees, heavy panting, and bright red gums. Rescuers worked quickly to cool her down, managing to bring her temperature down to a safer level swiftly.

Now, a little over a month post-rescue, Rainbow, who was underweight at the time she was found, has made strides in recovery while staying with a foster family. The Arizona Humane Society informed that, during her foster care, “Rainbow gained 20 pounds and the pups continued to grow big and strong.” Furthermore, the family has since made their way to the protection of the Humane Society’s trauma hospital, before being cleared for adoption…
