Police searching for hit-and-run driver after man killed in west Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Police are searching for a driver who struck and killed a man before fleeing the scene early Friday morning in the Maryvale area of west Phoenix.

First responders were called to the reported pedestrian crash just before 6 a.m. near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road. When officers arrived, they found a man with severe injuries.

Firefighters arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene. The victim has not been publicly identified.

Witnesses reported seeing the driver briefly get out of a gray Jeep Cherokee, then got back in and drove away. According to Phoenix Police Sgt. Brian Bower, the driver is believed to be a Hispanic woman in her 40s. The vehicle’s year is unknown at this time…
