Tempe opened a community disaster assistance center Oct. 23 to steer residents harmed by a powerful and destructive microburst storm to in-person relief.
The volunteer-based resource center was quiet, with about a dozen people filing in between noon and 2 p.m., according to Tempe spokesperson Kris Baxter-Ging. But city officials expected more people to use the center in the after-work hours and during the weekend.
