TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — The Tempe City Council voted Thursday to rename the March 31 holiday from Cesar Chavez Day to Women Farmworkers’ Day, following sexual assault allegations against Chavez.
City officials said the one-time change is meant to honor women who were part of the farmworker movement, recognize their contributions and acknowledge the trauma some endured.
