Cardboard crafts sink and swim during Grand Rapids’ Rally by the River

GRAND RAPIDS, Ohio — Near the surging whitewater of the Maumee River, an oversized cardboard teacup bobbed across a shallow creek.

The handmade boat was participating in the fourth annual Cardboard Boat Regatta as part of this year’s Rally by the River Days in Grand Rapids. Visitors from states including Michigan and Iowa flocked to the small village, which is home to less than 1,000 people, to participate in the weekend’s festivities.
